Botox is a compound derived from the bacterium, Clostridium Botulinum. When placed into muscle, it blocks nerve signals that cause that specific area of muscle to contract. This causes prolonged muscle relaxation, with a markedly less "wrinkled" appearance of the overlying skin.
Botox is most effective in treating the deep wrinkles of facial expression in the areas between and above the eyebrows, the forehead, and the area next to the eyes, known as "crow's feet."
The effects of an initial Botox treatment last an average of 3-4 months. With repeated injections, many people notice a prolonged duration of effect.
Botox has been FDA approved for the cosmetic treatment of deep wrinkles of the face. Side effects are few, rare, and completely reversible over time in all known cases. Prior to its cosmetic usage, Botox was injected for many decades into the muscles of the eye, the voicebox, and the large muscles of the neck and body to treat problematic muscle contractions.
Your Botox treatment will be administered by a Board Certified Head and Neck Surgeon. Central to this specialty of medicine are facial cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, incorporating a detailed knowledge of facial architecture and physiology.
This simple, non-surgical procedure will take only 10 to 15 minutes to perform!
