24 HOUR PH PROBE/REFLUX MONITORING SYSTEM

Dear Patient:

Your doctor has recommended a 24 Hour pH Probe test. This procedure involves ambulatory pH-monitoring system consisting of a single probe, transmitter, and recorder. The system will measure the acidity of your esophagus twice a second for the duration of the study. You will be asked to interact with the recording device by pushing corresponding symptom buttons. You will also keep a detailed diary of any food, beverage and medication you consume as well as your supine (laying down) period.

Please follow these instructions prior to the exam.

• STOP ANY MEDICATION FOR HEARTBURN OR REFLUX (7) DAYS PRIOR TO TESTING.

• Do not wear any make-up or lotions on your face the day of the study.
• Men: Please have a clean shaved area on either side of your nose as adhesive tape will be applied to the side of your face.
• DO NOT get either device wet after the probe has been placed. Please do not shower or go swimming while the study is being performed.
