TRANS-NASAL ESOPHAGOSCOPY WITH POSSIBLE BIOPSY

 

Prior to your exam:

  • Please do not eat or drink 4 hours prior to your exam.

 

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • At the time of your procedure the doctor may use a topical anesthetic. This usually wears off within 2-4 hours depending each individual patient.
  • A light sedative may be prescribed as well to be taken one hour prior to your procedure, and it is recommended that you have someone drive you to your appointment if you decide to use it.
  • Mild sore throat for one week after the exam.
  • Raspy voice after the exam.

 

 

HELPFUL HINTS:

 

  • Use a humidifier at night

 

  • Avoid hot drinks (coffee and hot tea)

 

 

  • Return to normal activity
